British Lop Pigs

The British Lop pig is a traditional multi-purpose pig being suitable for both pork and bacon production. It is extremely hardy and can be kept outdoors all year round. The sows are excellent mothers being very docile and easily managed. They are good milky mothers producing commercial pigs whether pure or crossed. They have an enviable record of piglets born and reared.

Traditionally the Lop was a small West Country pig that was kept in order to eat the rubbish. It was ideal for the beginner or a person only wanting to keep one or two pigs. It is one of the larger breeds, being long, lean and deep sided, with prominent lop-ears. The hams are well filled to the hocks.
